I have collected them for a long time and have about 325 of them in my collection.  Still I do not know that much about them other than I really like them.  From what I have read Aurora tried to compete with Hot Wheels with these models but discontinued them in about 18 months.  They are very fragile compared to any other brand.  There are a lot of broken and damaged ones and very few mint ones.
 
They come in 3 basic styles:
 Cigar Box - colored plastic with either rubber or plastic tires, these came in minature "Cigar Boxes"
 Speedline - metalized plastic with either rubber or plastic tires, these came on blister cars
 "Cheapie" - the final style which is very cheaply made and do not have windows or metal bases, these came on blister cards
Some of the plastic tires have silver paint spokes

There are track sets and accessories too plus carry cases and display boxes

There is also a gift pack which included 12 cars which I have had a few of but there is also a giant gift pack that had I think 24 cars.  I saw that style only once and would really like to get one someday.
